newbie mac user cant get screen to display

:eek: hi l have just broughtsecond hand a 1998 vintage power pc G3 233hz white case . and have been given a mac ibm adaptor .
l am using 17inch pc ctx crt montior and just get no display it make sound when power it like chime then nothing.

please can l have some help

The original specs say it doesn't support a 2nd display.

sorry l mean its my only display l cant get any video output.
l hear hd working but nothing on screen

I understand. But the iMac doesn't have a way to display it on anything but the screen it came with. It was never equiped with hardware to do it.

That is not an iMac. It's a beige G3 233Mhz Tower.

Not sure what is up. Does your VGA to DB-15 adapter have switches on it you can slide? I have seen some adapters not get along with certain monitors unless the adapter has switches so you can change settings.

Does your adapter look like this sort of anyway?

sorry again its not a imac its just desktop mac that u plug a montior into orginally a mac but havent got orginal mac screen

yes thanks it does but just with row of 10 dip switchs on the top numbered from 1-10 and the docs call them sw 1 - sw 10

Try different settings and see if you can get the monitor to light up. Change a setting with the Mac powered down as it senses the monitor at every startup. If the 10 switches are like my adapter try 4 up and all the others down. If not experiment a bit.
