I'm in the market for a hard drive enclosure that supports Firewire 800. I went through 3 firewire 800 hard drives with my MBP, each with a lifetime of a few days. So i'm trying to expand my options to go with something else, even network storage if i'm forced to, but i want to stay with F800. Can anyone give me some product advice?

Myself, the kid and a friend all have this enclosure. It also includes eSATA.
Fanless design. Am using the Seagate 750 GB drive in mine. The kid has one of the WD 500GB enterprise class drives in his. We're all happy with the choice so far.

Have you ever had a problem with the your firewire 800 port blow out the hard drive? I have had 2 MyBook Studio editions, and 1 Lacie d2 Quadra, that all went corrupt within 2 days of having them. So i'm looking for something else.

Mine runs exclusively on FW 800 except for my speed testing all the ports when I first got it. About 8 months now.
The kid's is set up on FW 400. Maybe 3 or 4 months.
Have had zero issues.

It's not the cheapest enclosure out there. But, I can recommend it based on my experience with it so far.

My iTunes Library and movies are kept on it. As well as my SuperDuper! backup.
Used it for awhile as a Time Machine back up drive as well.
The enclosure's power button has not been turned off since it was turned on.

Does OtherWorld Computing accept paypal? I'd like to combine the Mercury housing with a 1TB Seagate HDD, but I really need to cool it with credit cards after ordering the iMac!!! :) My other alternative is iOmega Raid 0 from Amazon.
