System Preferences removed from Dock by accident

I accidently removed System Preferences from my Dock.

I opened Applications and made a copy of System Preferences, and pasted it onto my desktop then moved it into the Dock BUT it won't open.

How do I add System Preferences back to the dock?? so it will open

1) Open System Preferences from the Applications folder. When you open an app it shows up in your dock.
2) ctrl click the icon in the dock and select keep in dock from the contextual menu.
3) Done!

You may also just find the icon in the applications folder and drag it to the dock, either one will work! Enjoy your Mac!!!
