NEW 16 GB IPhone Now AVAILABLE!!!!

I was just browsing the Apple website and saw that they now have a 16GB iPhone available for $499.00. This appears to be a silent launch, but an exciting one...all we need now is 3G.

yeah I noticed the store was down and was wondering why it as so. Thanks for going and finding why.

Actually a 32GB touch looks really interesting. I might just get one. If I can justify the cost which right now I can not.

Does anyone know how much room you'd actually have w/ the 32gig deducting all the applications on it? Do they take up a lot of room? I'd love to get it put I have about 25 gigs of music and wanted enough room

On the 8GB, there is roughly 7440MB free for your media. So I'd have to assume the 16GB model has 15.4GB free to use.

There is actually two logical volumes on the device.
"/" is the OS. It's only 300MB. The native apps are there. It's usually nearly full.
"/var" holds your media. It is 7440MB.

This screenshot says 'iPhone' but its the same OS...

Still not big enough for my mp3s. I'd love a touch, but i'll have to wait until a deluxe 100gig + model is released.

Isn't Apple a little ridiculous with their arbitrary pricing on memory? The same $100 that only gets you 8GB more on the phone gets you 16GB more on the Touch! It's a little insulting.

Well, the touch is starting to approach a usable size now. Once it hits 60GB I'll probably spring for one.

The iphone and ipt use flash memory, not a small hdd. Do you real think a 65GB solid state hard drive in a music player is going to sell (affordable)?

Think of the one available for the macbook air...

But they would use 2 32gb chips instead of the 2 16gb chips they now have. I'm guessing maybe in 5-6 months that could still be profitable for Apple at the $500 price point.
