Terrible Resolution

im using an old g3 powerpc i had 10.1 installed on it then i upgraded to 10.4 it booted up but its all in greay scale 256 colors so it says. and only the 640x480 resolution will come up i dont know what to do.. i thinik the card is an ati raedon. is there anything i can do to restroe color to my mac !!!

Are you able to access System Preferences>Displays?

Change to millions of colors and select best resolution and let us know how you go.

You don't give the model G3. There is much discussion on whether or not Tiger will install on early G3's, let alone run properly. Do a Google for 'Tiger on G3' and see what you come up with.

nope just 256 colors no millions or anything like that and im pretty sure its an older one .. umm.. tiger on g3 didnt really eturn anything im new to older macs lol

Exactly what Model G3 is it? IMac? Power Mac Tower? What are the specs?

not sure its the tower the blue and white one. powerPC g3 544 mb ram i put 10.1 back on it. so i could atleast use it

On the back where the VGA Monitor plug is, do you also see a round DIN type SVHS jack? You might have that educational B&W G3 with that ATI Video Capture card. The normal 16Meg ATI with Tiger works fine. Let me know. I have a B&W G3 with that ATI 16Meg card and Tiger. Works great even on my 20" Flat Panel.

yes thats what i have in tiger everything just is in black and white.. and very blurry .. however in 10.1 its fine im fixing to downgrade to 10.3 and see if that works i can live with 10.3 lol i just want garage band ha

ahh and 10.3 is the same way.. i dont unnderstand why i can use 10.1 but when ever i go higher than that it just wont work. ive wasted a totall of 400 dollars so far. and im about to smash this g3 with a mallet. then ship it back to the guuy who sold me it saying oh yeah man 10.4 will work no prob even the salesmans at comp usa said oh yeah no worries will install fine .. but we can do it for like 150$ no thanks if any one has any ideas please let me know
