Hey!

I'm a student though not yet in university (6th form = college).
So I get a 10% discount from the Apple store.

However, I've got a friend in uni and as you may well know he can get a discount of 17%.

What I wanted to ask is whether there is any drawback buying through him - i.e. it'll be registered in his name so will I get problems if I need to call Apple Customer Care etc.?

Cheers for the help!

When you first turn on your computer, it will take you through a setup assistant that will also register the computer. You'll enter your name/address/other info, and the computer will be registered to you. If you want extended warranty, buy the AppleCare yourself at a later date.

Thanks for the reply - but what about when he actually books the computer? He'll have to provide his name and perhaps address - but what would happen if I had to call customer care at a later date - the name on their records wouldn't match...

Doesn't make any difference who owns the computer or who paid for it. They go by the serial number.

Which is why if you sold the computer, the new owner could still get it repaired if it broke.

I'm sure that if you phoned them and said it was a gift they'd change the name.
