Ok so when i installed this printer i followed all of the instructions exactly.

I have checked that it is compatible with leopard and it is.

Any help would be greatly received.

It works fine from my imac but not mbp. they both have the same driver etc installed and both using the same cable.

Do you have a model number for the printer?

I have a Brother laser printer from several years ago, and it works without problems with my new iMac. Since you can get it to work with the iMac but not the MBP, it obviously isn't a printer or printer driver issue.

When you initially installed the printer software on your MBP, did you have the printer cable disconnected? I've experienced situations in the past where having it connected before you are prompted by the software to do so can cause an installation problem. I would recommend uninstalling/reinstalling on your MBP.

yes the usb cable was unplugged from both the printer and mbp

both drivers are from the same cd

when i send it to print the mbp see's the printer and sends it, the printer box comes up and says the jobs are stopped, i try to tell it to resume and it comes up with raster file error (somewhere in the library under printers). then it says something about client error.

i will posts screen shots tonight.

thanks

chris

What model is this Brother Laser? I own an HL2040 and never have had one issue with Panther, Tiger nor Leopard on 5-6 Macs I have tried it with.

Hi there,

It is a HL2030

It seems strange that it works fine on the leopard imac c2d

and not the Leopard MBP c2d

i will post screens shots when i get home

I will also try reinstalling it again.

Ok so here is the errors that I get

The first image shows that the print is immediately set to stop and as soon as I send it to print. If I try and resume it, it has no respose and eventually after around 4 or 5 clicks comes up with the second error / second image.

Again, any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thank you

right its fixed.

Heres what to do.

Do not use the Brother drivers disc. Use the Leopard OS X disc and install the brother drivers via optional installed. Then add the printer and it works great.

Good going! I was pretty sure it was a driver issue of some sort but since it worked on the one Mac and not the other it had me stumped. I am using the Leopard driver for my Brother Laser.

Good Job.

Yeah its very strange how the driver from the brother cd that came with the printer worked on the imac running exactly the same version of leopard, and it refused to work on the macbook pro !

The lesson learnt - use leopard drivers if needed from the leopard disc.
