So I'm working on my MBP, go away for a few minutes, sometimes an hour - leave it plugged in.

When I come back I am faced with the standard start up screen where I have to enter my password and all the software has to be restarted.

What's up with that?

lumpy.

Hi lumpy, best thing is to go to system preferences and check the energy saving settings.

Yup, the Energy Saver settings are probably set to shut it down after it has been idle for a certain period of time. There is an adjustable slider there - you can set it anyway you want it.
