Need help with older mini iTunes transfer

So my friend has a last gen ipod mini. Shes got a lot of stuff on it burned from itunes ver. 6 or something older. Her computer crashed a year ago and has since gotten a new one but has itunes 7.6 on it.

Shes been told that if she tries to hook up the mini to the new computer then the new version of itunes will wipe out her mini to update the itunes version on it to the newest version.

Is there a way she can save all her old stuff and still upgrade the software on it?

Download Senuti onto her computer, plug in the ipod and copy across the songs. (keep them in a folder on just the desktop or something) Then when this is finished open itunes, unless it opened auto when plugging in previously and update the software (if it did jus leave it in the background.) Add the songs to her itunes library after and then sync the ipod with the itunes library.
