Alright, can I use 2 500GB HDDs on TimeMachine instead of 1 1TB one? Like start on one of the 500GB HDDs and then once it's full, continue the incremental backups on the second one?

sounds like an awesome idea, but as of now, I don't know if you can, unless you do a RAID 0 between the 2 drives.

Nah, just using two normal externals, no RAID array.

Yeah you could do that, you would just need to manually change the hard drive in Time Machine's settings to the new one. Once you did that it would just start over as if the other drive didn't exist but all your back ups will obviously still be on it.

I think you should just RAID the drives so you get 1TB, then Time Machine will just treat it like a giant hard drive.

AFAIK, you can't RAID to USB external drives, can you?

I know you can't daisy chain them (hooking them into each other) but I've never tried to do a software RAID with them, I'm sure you can.

Actually, there are some external drives that able to be daisy chained as they come with two Firewire connectors.

Not sure how to do software RAID on a Mac, but I'm sure there is some software out there that let's you accomplish this.
