Syncing files with external flash drives

I have an flash drive with my homework on it. In windows there is a feature called suitcase in which the computer syncs with the flash drives and updates the files when I edit them. Is there a way on macs?

OS X is UNIX and includes the UNIX Rsync command to do this.

If you would rather not use the terminal then the app RsyncX gives you a graphic interface with this UNix command and can sync folders and disks for you.
