iPhone aux in mono

intel imac 24" 2.8GHz, 8GB ipod Nano, 16gb white iphone, 250gb apple tv, 8gb iphone.
I have connected my iphone into my aux on my car stereo and am getting mono signal only. is this normal. if not or if so is there any way i can connect it this way and get stereo

Are you using the iPhone headset adapter? If not, that's probably why. The iPhone's headset jack is recessed so standard plugs won't fit in. Your AUX cable is probably only half way plugged into the jack, meaning you're only getting half the signal.

Half signal = mono sound.
