Error Message while trying to move to 10.3!

I am trying to install 10.3 on my PBG4 500. The installer runs fine until it reaches the point that it is "Preparing the disk" and is "Checking for volume consistency". This is the first part of installation I think. After about 2 seconds I get the "There were errors installing the software" message and asks me to restart. When I restart this happens all over again. I re-formatted the hard drive so it is completely wiped. How can I get Panther installed??
