DLink DIR 655 and iMac N SUPER SLOW Download

My New aluminum iMac with Leopard has N activated and is connecting to my DLink DIR 655 as g/n but the download speed from my NAS which is hardwired to the router is beyond slow. The iMac is about 7 feet from the router.

My HP laptop running Vista and a G wireless card set up right next to it downloads at great speed.

I downloaded a 700 MB file to each and the laptop took minutes while the iMac calculated 1.5 hours to finish.

It uploads much faster but not as fast as I would expect N to perform.

Is anyone out there experiencing anything similar? Any solutions available that I missed after searching board after board and google for the last 4 days?

I transfer files very quickly using my DIR-655 and the various Macs and PCs. So clearly something is not right.

Have you tried resetting the router? Also, try upgrading to the latest firmware. I had a few issues out of the box, but it's been smooth sailing since the firmware upgrade.

Have the DIR-655 also. The firmware upgrade to the router definitely took care of some issues I was having with it after I installed Leopard.

I see there is a firmware upgrade so I'll try that and report back.

okay, that's a no... upgraded the firmware and rebooted everything and my G laptop is downloading a 700 MB file in 5 minutes and the iMac is estimating 2 hours.

If anyone has a Dlink router working well with a mac N system, could you post some of your configuration?

I am starting to think this is a return issue...

If it's still giving you issues after a firmware upgrade, I'm thinking you have a hardware fault at hand.

Here is my configuration.

Connected via ethernet: 3 PCs and an Xbox360
Connected via Wi-Fi: 5 laptops (4 with N) and 2 iPhones

I can transfer a 350MB file from my Macbook upstairs to a desktop downstairs in less than two minutes. The closer I get, the more this number drops. In the same room the transfer is somewhere close to a minute.

So if I were in your situation, transferring a 700MB file with an iMac should only take about two minutes, three at most.

Ugh... I made the mistake of buying my iMac at a Bestbuy so I'm not sure how returning it is going to go...
