System restore disc Q

I have a iBook with the 256 onboard ram and 10.3.9 im looking to upgrade to tiger. On ebay i found a set of original system restore discs to 10.4.2 for a ibook. should they work with my system?

System Restore discs work only with the particular model they came with so be very careful. They may. Better buy is the retail install DVD disc which is black colored.

how many different models of ibook g4's are there? i know there is a 256mb and a 512mb but should that really matter?

Just on two dozen! Have a look at this from Apple. Ask the seller what model iBook the install DVD is from maybe the easiest.
