In the circuit city ad today, they are currently selling an 17" HP laptop with a blu-ray player for $1199 w/ 3GB memory and 320GB Hard drive. So why doesn't apple release it's MB/MB pro with blu-ray player? It apparently doesn't cost 1k extra (considering this laptop is less than half of what the 17" MB Pro already costs)

It seems Apple's priority is promoting their HD rental content via iTunes. Putting a Blu-Ray drive in their machines would give us the alternative of playing HD discs instead, and that's not exactly in their best interests. *shrug* That's business for ya.

But doesn't apple support blu-ray? Since it apparently doesn't add too much extra to a computer's cost, why wouldn't apple add them? Especially since a lot of people watch movies on notebooks, a lot of times because of convenience.

i bet when the smoke clears and blu-ray is the official winner of the hd format
meaning all studios are on board we might see it and it has widespread acceptance until then doubt it.
