I uninstalled 2004 before installing 2008, but I later found that the 2008 installer removes older versions of Office. My brother just ran the installer and it worked perfectly fine on his machine. So I would suggest saving yourself the trouble and just letting the 2008 installer get rid of your older version instead of doing it manually.

Yep. The 2008 installer removes the earlier version automatically.

The Office 2008 installer does not remove 2004 automatically. I have tried it yesterday and managed to have both installed. However, installer will warm you about a possible incompatibility. If you don't want to have 2004, you can run the installer(Office 2008) at a later stage and remove it.

P.S. As Kash suggested, let the installer remove the old version to avoid any problems.

The installer AUTOMATICALLY removed Office 2004 on my machine after 2008 successfully installed. Maybe there was a problem with your particular installation.

Yes mine too. At one point it shows you the other version thats still on there and I think I had to put a checkmark in the box and tell it to remove it then manually empty the trash like it reminded me to do. However 2008 is way overrated. Its 2004 with a different look and thats about all.

But it's faster dude. Due to the Intel code. That's the only reason it's a logical upgrade. Also the interface is much revamped. A good interface makes all the difference. Now we only have to decide whether it's a better interface...

I had the option to leave 2004 or remove it. I left 04 and I'm glad I did, I may be removing 2008 because Entourage 04 allows me to open it in multiple windows where 08 does not.
