Hey :Smirk:

Im new to the world of mac and i am unsure as which one to buy

well before i go any further please refrain from giving me a hard time because im a bit of a noob

well any way

im just about to start tafe for a multimedia course
so i want to purchase a mac

im looking for something that is powerfull enough to process everything i want at a decent speed and that also has plenty of room

My initial choice was the 24 inch imac
# 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme
# 2GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM - 2x1GB
# 500GB Serial ATA Drive
# Apple Mighty Mouse
# Apple Keyboard + Mac OS X
# ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO with 256MB memory
# 24-inch glossy widescreen LCD
# AirPort Extreme
# Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR

$3,339

but after looking on the site i had a look at the mac pro

and if i was to downgrade the processor so it only had one
One 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon as opposed to two

it would cost A$ 3,368.00 therefore putting it in my price bracket

these are the stats on the mac pro

* One 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon (quad-core)
* 2GB (2 x 1GB)
* 320GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3GB/s
* ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256MB (Two dual-link DVI)
* One 16x SuperDrive
* AirPort Extreme card (Wi-Fi)
* Apple Mighty Mouse
* Apple Keyboard

are you able to upgrade the processor on the mac pro at a later date

please let me know what you think

Btw, im only 17 so maybe like the mac pro might be a bit much at this stage i dont know

Thanks for your help

Get the imac, theres no point in getting a big mac pro if youre not really doing anything that needs it

well the thing is i will be learning how to use final cut pro

and i do plan to make a lot of video projects

like this is the path i want to follow when i get older with video and picture editing plus web design

but at looking at it the imac does still look quite powerfull on its own
and maybe i should just get extra ram installed

thanks a heap for your help

If it was me i would get the Mac Pro, simply because of the quad-core. Also the Mac Pro was refreshed recently. The Pro allows alot more upgradability for the future. The Mac Pro's hard drive is slightly but 320GB is still a good size. Remember if you want Bluetooth and Wifi added to the Mac Pro it is extra.
The iMac would be able to handle Final Cut easily and it's has a much smaller profile.
However if you have the desk space and a good monitor look in to the Mac Pro, if you want everything in one small package then look in to the iMac.
