RAM Upgrade questions

I have a Digtal Audio 533MHZ and I wanna upgrade the RAM on it. Currently there are two sticks of 256 PC133 RAM in it from Kingston (I believe)

1) Does my Mac take 168-pin? I assume this matters quite a bit

2) Will any type of PC133 work or does it have to be Mac-specific (I don't think it does, but that might be where the pin type matters).

Thanks!

1. Yes, 168 pin, PC 133, 3.3 volt, 125 mhz (8ns) or faster.
2. It does not have to be Mac-specific as the PC 133 is a cross-platform standard.
Since your Mac has 3 RAM slots you can add a 512 mg in the empty slot to bring it up to 1 gb. (Each slot will handle up to 512 mb for a total of 1.5 gb.)

Excellent - thank you!

What's the fastest RAM I can put into this thing, or is 133 it...

Will faster RAM work in this G4 or will it slow to 133 no matter how fast it is...

The RAM will only operate as fast as the system bus speed.

Ah, so anything faster than PC133 ram will be no faster in my G4 than 133 - gotcha! thanks!

Correct. I'm not entirely certain just how much faster the RAM can be and still work correctly with your machine, but I do know that the 512 MB stick in my iBook is 133, and works fine with my 100 MHz bus speed.

The fastest speed for SDRAMs is 133 anyway...
Faster RAMs than that are DDR SDRAMs, which physically don't fit in any Quicksilver.
