Multiple Session burn on DVD-R...is it possible???

I am wanting to back up my photos/video clips to DVD for storage...is it possible to burn a DVD-R in multiple sessions???

I know you can create sessions with toast.

I have used Toast 7 to create sessions...but only with RW discs...I was wondering if anybody knew if it is possible to use multi-session recording to a DVD-R.

By the way Rman...everything is perfect...how can we argue that it is not...imagine this, looking back from outerspace towards earth...how can you look at the planet earth and say that there is something on the planet that is not in its exact position that it is meant to be...it is our perceptions/ideas/conventions that are not perfect...existence is perfect, how could it not be

yes, but i know sometimes, on PC's at least, you get a warning that not all drives can read multisession disks.

i would say just wait till you got 4.3G of stuff to burn and then burn


or you can look back at the earth from space and think "wow, we really ruined it didnt we, what a perfect existance we had, we killed it all and force ourselves off it"

As far as I have tried, Mac OSX either with Panther, Tiger, it does not support multi-session burning on DVD-R or DVD+Rs but with CDRs, multi-session is permitted. I have used Toast, and another software called "Disco".

With PCs Nero Burning Rom, mulitsession burning in DVDRs is permitted. But after burning 2 sessions, and inserting the DVD to a Mac OSX, it can only read the first session burned in a PC, and not the second session.

From Mac OS X Help: If you want to burn items to a disk in more than one session until the disc is full, use Disk Utility. This is called multisession burning. For more information, open Disk Utility (in /Applications/Utilities), choose Help > Disk Utility Help, and search for "multisession."

Just to share, I have tried many times in using Disk Utility for multi-session DVD burning but the "Append Disc" gets always greyed out so you can't get multi-session. Tried this on Panther and Tiger, both on PowerPC and Intel Macs. I dont know if Leopard, supports multi-session. Maybe Apple feels this is not an important feature and might as well use external HD.
