I don't know about 10.5, but under Tiger, you could uncheck any shortcut, including Voice Over or even all of the Universal Access shortcuts from the Keyboard Shortcuts tab of the Keyboard & Mouse pane of System Preferences.

Chilbear: I want to disable the keyboard shortcut that turns voice over on and off so I can use it for something else.

technologist: Yes, checked there already and the voice over shortcut doesn't appear there. :(

Thanks for the help! Any other ideas?

Sorry mis read the post.

Try Preferences>Keyboard>Keyboard Shortcuts and try to disable the one you do not want or failing that just add the one you do want. Have done for Quark and Indesign.

Not sure if it will work for you as you are fooling with a system installed shortcut.

I have the same problem. When I set up the VoiceOver feature, it prompted me to set up a shortcut. I stupidly chose shift z. So now I cannot capitalize my zs.

The Keyboard shortcut list doesn't show that assigned to anything, but it still activates the voiceover command. Under Universal Access however, it indicates a different keystroke combo and there are no options that I can find in there to reassign it ...
