How do you decided when its time for hardware replacement? Do you have a planned time (ie 2-3 years), when you feel your computer is slow etc.

i usually go with when ever i feel like or it is popping and clicking and needs to be replaced.

I actually plan on every 4 to 6 years for desktops and 3 to 5 years for laptops.

White MacBook Intel C2D 2.2GHz, 2G, 250G, SD, Leopard.
I replace hardware either when it's unreliable or when it's no longer upgradeable to support my needs. I don't typically buy at the bleeding edge. I buy just beyond the sweet spot of performance versus cost. I expect a machine will last 3 years; the good ones exceed that easily.

I'm with mathogre on this one. About every 3 years is when I buy, but it may be less frequently now with my primary gaming machine being my Playstation 3. I may be happy for a while with my MacBook Pro. One year old in a couple of weeks, and I can't see any need for replacing it any time soon.
