question marks on icons in the dock

Hey this may be silly but,

I tried to move all my apps to the dock in order to free up the desktop but some of them just come up w/ question marks when I try to open them and then when I pull them off the dock they literally go "poof" and dissapear and then I haev to re download....any ideas??

You can not take them from the desktop to the dock
you need to put them in the applications folder first

Open the application from its original folder, then right click it in the dock and select "Keep in Dock". This will keep it in the dock.
