When my PC friend emails me with pictures embedded in her
email, they show up as "dat." files. They will flash the picture briefly when I first open her mail but then they are gone into the wind. I am totally mystified. Can anyone help me with a solution so the pictures will appear as they should?

Many thanks!

I seem to remember this happening before. Can you drag the attachment to your desktop first, then change the extension to tif, jpg or pdf. I think it happens because the the attachment is not converted correctly by the mail program I would guess. You may have to try a few to get it correct. Perhaps fool with the settings in your Mail app you use to change how it stores the attachment.

When this happened to me it was a ZIP file coming through as a dat extension.

Additional: There are reports of the Mail app doing odd things right now if your use the basic Mail app in Leopard (I do not). Check Apple support - terrific support forums.
