Telnet and OpenSSH? You looking for some type of GUI for command line tools?

i realized just a while ago that these are built into the shell. nevermind....sorry for the noob question.

Tis ok. Just remember, OS X is based off of BSD, so most of the command line stuff should be there. There is also Fink and DarwinPorts which allow you to compile a ton of other *NIX programs on your Mac.

i've used various *nix flavors for quite some time, but for some reason i keep forgetting that mac is itself another. i guess that's because it really does, 'just work' and i'm so used to tinkering with my linux machines...

Yeah I came from Linux and Unix machines, so Fink and Darwinports was quite useful for me. I understand tinkering, most of the machines I ran were source-based distributions, so much tinkering was involved. :)
