Is this an easter egg, or a joke? or is this a bug?
Use OSX's Calculator in scientific mode and plug in "Pi + Pi =" and the output is 6. It should be 6.28318530718 (as indicated by plugging in "Pi * 2 =")

Here is a discussion of the strange math on another forum...

What version of OSX you running? Here Leopard 10.5.1 it works perfectly. On the Calculator go to the View menu and be in Scientific mode and also set the Decimal places to something other than zero. I am set at 10. This is what I get with Pi+Pi.

6.28318530718

Same as my HP 20s and HP 42s RPN.

I just booted my G4 DA with 10.4.11 Tiger and get 6. The bug is fixed in 10.5.1 for sure anyway.

For those of you needing a bit more accuracy for pi, here's a link for you. It's the first million decimal places of pi. Pi's actually been computed to 1.24 trillion digits.

Yes... but how many decimal places of Pi can you recite from memory?

:p

(I'm lame and can never remember anything past 6 digits)

I'm no better. I'm good to 7 digits. Some people can remember a few more however. :) (100,000 back in 2006.)

It's bad enough dedicating one's self to programming a computer to crunch 10^12 decimal places of pi. I could actually see that as a bit of fun. However, I couldn't imagine committing a huge chunk of my life to memorizing what amounts to 100,000 pieces of noise, which is what pi is after a dozen or so places.
