Alright, I have my sounds preferences turned on with everything. If I get a phone call, it rings; but if I get a message, email, or type on the keyboard, I don't get the alert tones or the clicking from typing on the keyboard. It was working fine until now. I've turned it off and back on (both the phone and silent mode). Any suggestions?

No, I know about that switch, that's what I meant with the silent mode.

Alright, after digging around I found the solution. I plugged in the earbuds (or any headphones that fit into the recessed jack) and unplug them. I then got sounds again.

Hope that helps if someone else runs into this problem.

This happened with my MacBook Pro when I first got it. I put it to sleep with the earphones still in it, then took them out and later when I turned the MB back on, it still thought there were earphones in it. Had to call Apple to fix it :p
