I'm a 3 chord specialist on the guitar:) , and I'd like to know if there is any "easy" reading material to help me use, what looks like a fabulous program. It appears to be a heavy duty program for the talented artist.

What, Garageband a heavy duty program for the talented? Steve Jobs would turn in his limo if he heard you say that... ;D

The easiest 'Easy Reading' material in GB is in the HELP section at the top of the screen when you run GB. It's no brain burner to be honest. If you know nothing about recording on a computer it's about the easiest place to start i've seen.
