In 0S9 I used a VERY handy little utility called QuickDex.
Used it to store ser No’s, names, addresses. It was SO
handy and easy to find things. (Could just type Mic and it
would pull up Microsoft, etc.)

It was sold by Cassady & Greene who have long been out
of business.

Their latest version was 2.0.2 which of course doesn’t work
in X.

Does anyone know of a comparable program for storing
these little items and can be quickly found & pulled up?
Thanks.

*Moved thread to appropriate forum - Question not for OS X Operating System but OS X apps*

I would think Spotlight can do this but uhm... I dunno how you can input metadata for easily finding stuff. My buddy Brown Study talked about EasyFind, a third-party app. Maybe you could look into this. Hopefully it works in Leopard but it works great in Tiger.

Thanks for your suggestion. My question WAS about OS X.

Very sorry you moved it. Now no one will see it.

Well Spotlight is indeed built-in OS X. So my mistake, I thought you were looking only for a third-party application.

I do however find that Spotlight, at least in Tiger's version of Spotlight, isn't quite there yet, that's why I was very thrilled with Brown Study's suggestion of EasyFind, it works quite well.

Edited to add:

Another one I forgot to add is SpotInside. I just downloaded it and will try to use it to see how it works. Maybe you'll like it too. :)

OS 10.4.11 “information storer”

Can anyone recommend a little “information storer” like
QuickDex was in OS9?

Just want it for names, addresses, phones numbers and
serial numbers. A program where this info can be easily
retrieved.

Thanks.

Your moving my posts is HIGHLY insulting .. and embarrassing!

If you don’t want my posting and participation, just tell me and
you will never hear from me again. But, don’t insult me in front
of the whole group, by moving my posts refleting what a dummy
I am to have posted it there!

It was an honest OSX question. Yes, I'm new on this forum. But,
I'm on several other forums of different topics.

The forum where I humbly posted my question, is not that busy
where the strictest separation would be mandated!

Do you just enjoy showing your authority by arbitrarily insulting
new people who’ve elected to support your forum?

I get your message. If you don’t want me, I'll quit right now!

Unfortunately no, it was not an OS X question. You're not asking about the operating system, you're asking about applications. In no way ,shape, or form did it belong in the OS X forum.

If you are that distraught over something this minor, it may be better for you to find another forum that better suits your needs. Posts are moved all the time, it happens regularly on every forum. You really should not take it so personally.

Secondly, I'm amazed that you have the nerve to attack MHC for "insulting you" and then you decide to turn around and explode with rudeness and an outright horrible display of negativity. I find you to have been the one being insulting, not MHC who was simply moving your post to the correct forum so you could get the best response.

I tried letting this dog lie after I read it yesterday, but just couldn't.

The real insult and embarrassment is what you have now done to yourself by showing your true character in this post.

Your first post above was asking about a utility/app 'Quickdex' - definitely a software/application question, not an operating system question.

Your second one being combined into this thread, again asking about 'QuickDex', is considered cross-posting, e.g. asking the same question in two different threads. A no-no on most forums.

Don't really care how many forums you are a member of. And don't care how other forums are managed (or not managed as the case may be). This forum is not those.

You want a forum where you can pick and choose where you place your questions based on what you think will get the most looks based on your slim to non existent knowledge of the forum? Maybe you would be better off somewhere else.

Just as an FYI, in case you do come back and read this: Most of the 'regulars' around here use a little button up at the top - 'Get New'.
This gives them a look at every post made since the last time they logged in. These same regulars are not going to be wiling to provide you with much help, if any, after going off on MHC.

Think I can safely speak for the vast majority of members here in saying that MacHeadCase is one of the most respected and helpful members on this board. You see someone that moved your posts. I see someone that went the extra mile. At the same time your post was being moved, and no one seemingly knew of an app for you, MHC took the time to search the internet to try to find one that might work for you. Not only that, but was installing it to check it out. Most people only answer questions they already know the answer to. You want to go off on the one that was willing to spend the extra time in finding something for you, all I can say is, good luck.
