I just purchased my MacBook:

2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
MAC OS X 10.5.1
2 GB 667 MHz RAM (upgraded from 1GB)
(The 1299.99 one!!! lol)

It seems to me that more often than not, people upgrade without knowing if they will even access the additional memory. As stated, I tossed the 512's in favor of two 1GB's, but will I see a benefit in expanding to 4GB?

CS3. The only program that I will be using. Although this isn't a small program, I thought I would inquire.

Thanks.

how much ram do u use now with cs3?

if your above 200 or so doing everything u need/want, i dont see the reason.

i sprung for 4gb, skipping 2gb, because i run a VM all day.

if your a heavy user return the 2gb, and just buy the 4gb, youll thank yourself in a few months.

Once I get the Christmas bills paid, I'll be upgrading to 4GB in my new MacBook. At $100 on NewEgg I see no reason not to.

a couple ways. i like "menu meters"

you can also use "activity monitor", which is already on your computer. just spotlight it, and click the memory tab, and open everything you want up.

here is a shot of menumeters and activity monitor, so you can see what you are looking for (youll have to DL menumeters, and install/setup):

Menumeters is the green/red in the smaller screenshot, just in case you werent sure...please excuse the mess on the activity monitor shot, i tried wipping my name out, just for fun :)

Great Information! Thank you for the detailed response. I'm out-of-town at the moment, but I will run CS3 with the activity monitor and update this thread when I get back home.

Very true. I will probably just go ahead and take your advice and upgrade when I get back home.

i like command-shift-4. gives you crosshairs to select what you want to.

*^3 gives you an entire shot, which is good too, but sometimes not needed.

Buy it now while it is cheap (and sell it later if your not using it), 2008 DDR2 ram prices will be going up again, likely back to the old $300 for 4G range again.

various news articles going around, also from the past every time ddr2 dropped, it skyrocketed after, with factories moving over to produce the new DDR3 ram being ramped up quickly, supply will be come less for DDR2, less production, still demand, prices go up.
