Hey,

I sorta deleted my desktop icon in the home folder by accident and now I can't drag anything onto the desktop. I just get a message saying "the item 'x' could not be moved because 'x' cannot be modified" aahhh anyone know how and if this can be fixed?

cheers for any help.

Create a new folder in your home folder called "Desktop".

Also, is your system new enough to migrate to a new account?

Ok, I created a new folder, but still having the same problems. I've had this system a while, how would I go about migrating? would that get me my desktop icon/file back?

Just create a new user account (system preferences > user accounts) with administrative rights.

Of course, wait till someone else puts on a solution to the problem in the first place.

Maybe you make a desktop folder for your user with the root user.

this happened to me a while back.it was where id lost everything on my desktop and i couldnt even open FINDER or see anything at ALL on the desktop.

now.....whenevr this has happened ive rebooted.
maybe what happened to me was different but worth a try?

i also did this thing where i accidentally deleted the network icon.
i think i didi a 'search' for the name Network and re-found the icon. maybe try seaching for the word 'desktop' and the logo will come up . im not sure if this will help.

Creating a new folder will not help. I had similar problem when QuickBoojs pro changed the folder to a document. Remove the folder and try logging out and back in again.

I don't know if this will work, because I reload the combo updater when I found out I had a problem.
