• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I have an emac with 10.5.1 running at 1.25Gh and 1Gh ram, with superdrive. I have all the usual applications and want to know whether it is possible to edit a dvd from disc. Having recorded several films on TV over xmas (incuding over-running and the adverts), I would like to remove the bits I dont want, then reburn them as films onto dvd again.
Is there an application that I can use to do this?
Many thanks

Not from the disc. You would have to rip the files from the DVD, encode them into something iMovie (or whatever NLE you use) can understand, edit them, and then reburn. I believe there is an application called Handbrake that will allow you to rip the DVD (if it has no copy protection of course) and then encode them into MPEG-4.

Hope that helps.

Thanks DJ
Have downloaded handbrake and the emac is currently converting it to mpeg.....the dvd was 3Gb so its taking forever.
I also got Moviegate which has a load of codecs so that a number of different media formats can be imported into imovie and idvd.
Will try to import the mpeg4 tomorrow into imovie and will report back.
Thanks
