With those specs I don't think you'll be hurting....

If you want to see how much disk space those are taking up you can choose "get info" on the "iPhoto Library" item in your Pictures folder.

depends what res you took the photos at, what format they are in and size etc.

I suggest downloading the istatpro widget. that will give u all the info u need for your RAm, HDD space etc etc

i have 2300 pictures at 5.5gb total

If you're talking about hard drive space utilization -- it really depends on (like Joe.Morgan says) resolution of the photos and the quality. A photo taken with a 3megapixel camera at its highest resolution will take less space than a 10 megapixel camera on its highest resolution.

Then if you make any edits to the photos in iPhoto, iPhoto creates a backup of the original -- so in essence you are storing two copies of the same photo for every photo you modify. So, if you have 20 gigs worth of pictures and you have modified every one in iPhoto you'll probably need at least double that space to store all of the photos and associated data.

10GB is nothing considering what HD sizes are today. youll be fine with ANY current solution. I think the least these days is 80GB

I'm using 28.51GB for 9,677 photos on my MBP. Don't worry about space.
