so I did a spredsheet on numbers and I send it to my friend who uses a pc n he can't open it with excel. Do I have to save the file as some other format or does he have to do something to open it?

You need to export it as an Excel file. Excel can't open Numbers files.

As Schweb stated, when you are finished with your spreadsheet, you can save it for yourself as an Numbers document but also go to File and Export and Export it as an Excel Spreadsheet. Excel will then open it.
