ATA vs. Firewire 800.

Aloha,

My friend bought the dual 2.5GHz G5 and wants to do broadcast quality video on Final Cut Pro. Will getting the LaCie Extreme drive (500 Gig, Firewire 800) add to the overall performance of this set up or will the internal ATA drive do? Just a wondering, is the transfer rate of Firewire 800 faster than HD that apple uses in their G5s?

i think the sata will be faster

SATA has a maximum speed of 150MBps
FireWire 800 has a maximum speed of 800Mbps, or 100 MBps.

In addition, FireWire hard drives are not FireWire hard drives at all: they're ATA hard drives in FireWire enclosures, and are thus limited to the speed of the ATA drive minus some overhead.

Doesn't matter how fast the bus is. The disks themselves are not nearly fast enough to saturate the bus.

In other words, they are all the same.
