Hey everyone,

I have a new external harddrive (Seagate FreeAgent 320GB) and I'd like to use it to back up my important files. By "important", I mean my pictures, music, and documents. I've seen various types of backup software discussed on this forum but I haven't seen anything that's what I'm looking for.

Ideally, what I'd like to do is just assign three or four folders to be backed up to the drive whenever a change takes place. Basically, a live backup of certain folders. I don't need to get into disk images and system files etc.

I've tried SuperDuper (free version) and iBackup and neither one seem to be a great fit for what I need. Any other suggestions?

There is AASync, but that isn't automated like you are wanting. I guess you could automate with applescript or something, but it would not be live so much as a cron job that completes every so often.

Time Machine?

You can choose what NOT to backup so choose everything except your user directory or where ever you keep all those treasured files.

It will not automatically back-up on the fly but you can schedule it to back-up frequently

There's a demo so you can give it a try
