partitoning problems

Ive been trying to partiton my HD so i can run linux, but its not working. what can i do?
im running leopard on first gen macbook, 60 gig.

A little more information would be helpful. Can you tell us the steps you've taken so far to partition your hard drive? If you're getting any error messages, posting those would be helpful.

Ive tried it in Disk Utility and in Boot Camp i get a message saying i cant partition this drive because its the primary and tells me to back it up. is there anything i can do to bypass this?

MB White 160GB, 2GB RAM,
use "diskutil resizeVolume" option from terminal. That should solve your problem.

so how exactly from there do i resize it? do i type in that "diskutil resizeVolume disk1s3".. then like "5g"?
