Hello fellow Maccy's ;D

I'm new to the forum - very pleased to meet you all.

I'm just wondering, does anyone know how to turn off the iTunes feature where by when you play an MP3 from a network drive (in my case a Maxtor Shared store device) it dosen't download the song to the local machine? It's very annoying. Also, is there any other decent media players besides iTunes?

Thanks guys.

iTunes adds the media files to it's library whether you like it or not. However, you can stop it from copying the actual file over. So all you will be left is the track info in the iTunes library.

You can either go to the Preferences > Advanced > and turn off the "Copy files to iTunes folder" option.

OR, if it's just a few files now and then, you can drag the file over into the iTunes library while holding down the Option key.
