How do you design your websites? Do you create the whole website in photoshop first and then slice it up, do you draw it on paper first, or do you just design them on the fly while you are coding them in dreamweaver or a text editor?

Picture it in my head, then code it in Coda, graphics/styling comes after that

Typically a design firm supplies me with a photoshop document. I slice it up as needed and code it by hand, like Del, with coda.

If the time is a scarcity, I would take ideas from great looking sites and implement them after bit of customizing. Take a look at this site. If I have plenty time and resources in hand, I would design my layout on a piece of paper and later convert it to a digital form using CSS and XHTML. I use Textmate for editing. Haven't tried PS so far.

My main site (www.gauteweb.net) is based on Wordpress and K2. I've customized it with Smultron, CSSEdit and Photoshop Elements.

I've also got a few minor sites made in RapidWeaver (mainly because it's just so much fun and fast to work with).

Nice websites guys.. I wish I could say that I drew them on a peice of paper, and then coded them from that, but a lot of the time I just code and eventually end up with something at the end.

Current (Will SOON change..)

My problem is I will start designing a site, get a front page, but not fill it with content, start on the secondary pages and get very bored, very quickly..

Currently working on a PHP website for a Skiing holiday I am going on in February, im hoping to allow my friends and family to register, login and upload photo's they take..

If anybody can provide any help on this drop me a PM, and we can talk over iChat or whatever, I already have the database set up.. Just the PHP I struggle with!

Ø First I discuss with the client what exactly he wants
Ø Next, I make a sort of sitemap of what's going to go where.
Ø Then, take on a large chart paper, draw out the sketches.
Ø Then, make the homepages and one of the inside pages in Photoshop.
Ø Show it to the client (if I have more than 1 version)
Ø Then slice it up.
Ø Code it in Coda.
Ø Then use Dreamweaver if I have lots of text matter.
Ø If it needs a software backend, I send it over to a programmer. Otherwise I publish it on my own.

Pretty much the same thing here, minus the coda part. I go straight to dreamweaver.

I write down a list of what needs to be done, but mostly it's in my head. Coding comes next.

No amount of photoshopping is going to help you if you don't know how to code. Start with the basics like HTML and CSS coding (google these for resources) and then learn design principles.

I'm thinking different... iMac, Macbook, iPod Touch, 10.5 - Leopard
1) open iWeb
2) pick my theme
3) customize as needed
4) add content
5) hit publish

:D
