Is there a way to place icons on the desktop anywhere I want?

I'm running Leopard and everytime I try to position an icon anywhere on my desktop, it snaps back to the right side of the screen.

I looked in View Options but I don't see any way to turn off what I'm assuming is "snapping to grid" or something similar.

Thanks,

Take another look in view options...Where it says arrange by near the bottom, change it to none. You should be able to move your icons anywhere you wish now. :)
