calendars not synching to iphone

i have the "sync iCal calendars" tab ticked in iTunes but the sync just hangs and eventually i have to cancel the sync from the iPhone if i un-tick it that sync works fine. i have tried just syncing just selecting selected calendars with nothing in them but that dose not work ever

any ideas?

i am using system 10.4.11
