so i have a list of problems that i need to get fixed, and i have a couple of questions for you guys.

1) I am in college (just got out for holiday break) and my dad already had an Apple account so i just gave him money and he bought the computer with his account at the end of last summer. so when i call, do i tell them that i am him, or should he call or what?

2) Do you have any advice about making this any less "painful," ie not being on the phone for 4 hours? (like what day of the week to call, any "key words" to use, etc)

there is a plethora of problems that i need to be addressed, so just for the fun of it I will give you an idea of what i need to be fixed.

-Uneven spacebar (only registers dead center)

-Lagging animation in dashboard, expose, dock, etc. (mostly one battery, but also on power)

-Video on YouTube and iChat (video freezes, then speeds up, then repeats)

-Noise admitted from headphone port when headphones are plugged in. It is a strange whining noise

-Uneven screen on right side by more than a millimeter

-Not all buttons register when held down/need to push very hard

-Touchpad takes a second to be responsive, sometimes it "tweaks out"

-Power saver settings do not always register, I had it set for 30 minutes, and screen would dim after 1 minute even after restarts.

-Safari quits at least once a day with error message

-Chess stops working, the computer just stops playing. There is no application freeze (under force quit), the program is still running but the computer stopped “thinking.” The activity monitor is listed at 0

-After you close the screen, it does not always come out of sleep mode, you have to hold down the power button and restart

-Restart time seems to get increasingly longer

-Roommates regular MacBook has none of this. It has a slower processor and a GMA 950 with only shared memory

-DVD was already set to region 6 when I got it with Tiger

-I was hoping that a clean install would fix the problems (to Leopard), but honestly, it did not resolve any of the problems

Thank you all for your help!

1) Just go with the truth. If it backfires, you can always call again :)

I'd suggest that you sort of demand a replacement since there are a lot of problems with your macbook. Since you've already clean installed Leopard right? Also, I'd suggest you get hold of an external firewire hard drive and install+boot from that and see. It could just be a case of your hard drive saying bye bye...

yes, i installed leopard. luckily i have everything backed up in time machine. but if it is a software problem (somehow) i hate to use that to restore...

thats really cool that you can boot from a firewire HDD! but sadly i do not have one.(mine is USB)

i will keep posting in here with updates of what happens when i call within the next day or so.

thanks!

my advice, take it to an apple store, and show them. If your inside your 14 days, tell em to replace it, nicely.

if not, they get to ship it to their repair center a few times, because you know it wont come back with all those things fixed.

Not much else you can do really.

so i finally got through and spoke with the guy. he said he couldnt give me a new computer on the spot, but that i had to have it repaired once and if it still didnt work then i would get a new one. they are replacing the logic board (big surprise), dvd drive, and he didnt say what else.

ill let you know how it works in a week (or more?) when i get it back.

BEST THING EVER! so I called back and talked to guy and told him that even after I had my computer repaired I was having problems. so he said "how would you feel if we sent you a new computer. what upgrades did you add?" so i told him i went with the 160gb HDD and he said "is it OK that we send you the 2.4 ghz model so we can save time by not switching the HDD because that is the standard configuration?"

Incredible. I cannot think of ANY other company that would do that.

*****WORD OF ADVICE********

because they have to take your complaints at your word, i HIGHLY recommend that you use a digital camera to get a video of the problem. I did that and e-mailed it to the guy (compressed to under 5 mb works best) while i was on the phone and he said how much easier it made his job and helping me get a new computer...

Happy New Year to all!
