How do i see what programs run when i start up my macbook and how do i go about stopping some of them?

iMac Core Duo 20", iBook G4, iPhone 8GB :)
Go to System Preferences > User accounts. Then select your user account and select the "startup items" or something. Just poke around there and you'll get it.

In addition to Goobi's suggestion, you should also look for a folder in the Library called "StartupItems". Check the root library and your user library.
