CD Drive partial works.

I have an iBook G4 I purchased in july of 2004. Just recently my cd drive combo drive is acting up. When I put in a music cd only half of the songs show up in finder and when I preview them it is very poor quality. The same cd wont show up in iTunes. When I put in a DVD it says it is a blank DVD and if i want to eject it or ignore it even though there is information on the DVD. I have tried repairing permissions and creating another user profile and trying it, but it still does the same thing. Do I have to get a new drive or can this be fixed?
