Address Book "Locks Up"

Need some help. Trying to use Address Book for Xmas list. As I'm inputing data the program "locks" and I get the "little colored wheel". I then must do a Force Quit.

Performed a Disk Utility check and all OK. Also took the original installation disks and "re-installed" the Bundled Softward.

System: MacBook Pro 17, 160 GB HD with 135 FREE, 2GB RAM.

All input is appreciated.
