Will 7200 rpm hard drive damage my iMac?

I would like to know if a 7200rpm hd will damge my iMac? I have heard this was true and just wanted to know for sure. What are the effects of this?

If you installed it in an iMac and planted the Mac on some sand or some nearby jelly or on a precarious ledge, then it -might- do some damage, otherwise it should be fine.

Why would a 7200 RPM hard drive damage an iMac? I thought that is what they come with...

All of the latest iMacs have 7200rpm drives.
However, the OP did not specify which model iMac the new drive would be installed in.

When I go to "about this mac" it states 500Mhz PowerPC G3 1 GB SDRAM Startup Disk Boot Volume Mac OS X V 10.4.10

I have replaced 5400 rpm HDD 2ith 7200 in iMacs, back to the 350 slot loader, and G4 towers with no problems.

Good catch DB. You all need to figure out what gen model he is using before you offer advice.
Upgrading to a 7200RPM drive is no problem. Just make sure it is an IDE drive, not SATA as previously mentioned. I think you cannot put a drive over 128GBin there though. I am not 100% certain. I can confirm later for you though.
