I checked my sleep settings and that's not it! Basically, the only way to turn the screen on again is to hold on button for 7-10 seconds and then press it once quickly. It doesn't look like it is booting up, just takes a minute before it lets me use mouse and type. Is it really bad to do this almost every time I use it? Anything I am missing here? The MacBook I have is only 6 months old...

Have you checked your setting under "Energy Saver" in Preferences? The way you say to get it to wake up is not at all normal. You may want to contact tech support or go to the Apple store if one is nearby.
