What is kernel panic? I seen everyone talking about it here? What is it actually about?

Basically, something has made the core of the OS (the "kernel") very upset. The kernel is the part of the OS that does all the truly magic stuff - scheduling work onto CPUs, multi tasking the existing work so that everything gets done together, hardware level dealing with all of the physical devices attached to your Mac (hard drives, cameras, etc.) and so on.

The most usual cause of a kernel panic is a hardware failure somewhere in your Mac.
