Yes, it technically works.
Should you use it on a Macbook... not really.
Your Macbook only requires a 60W power supply. Going higher than that could bring you a risk of damage to your notebook up to and including fire.

Going the other way is fine (using a 60W to power a MBP).

Then why do they come with 85w???

I want to get one of the newer smaller 85w power adapters but the reviews on Apple's website make it sounds like a piece of junk

last time i checked, if you use the 85w on a MB, itll only pull 60w from the adapter like it needs. i dont see how that could hurt anything.

when using a MB or a MBP do you guys think the laptop is constantly pulling MAX wattage? it not. My guess is ONLY when charging can you pull MAX W

It is the other way around. Using the 60W on a MBP will damage at least the adapter, not sure about the MBP.

The box for the 85w says it works with for MacBook and MacBook Pro, I didn't think to check the 60w...

The new 85w appears to be the same size as the 60w, almost doesn't make sense why they sell both since they are the same price. You might as well always get an 85w...

bout time they shrunk the MBP adapter. that was one reason i didnt buy another MBP, it was huge.
