• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Hi, new to Mac and this forum and would appreciate some advice.

I have a few hundred video clips taken over the last 5 years in various formats. (avi,mov,mpeg,mpeg4 etc) I would like to be able to clean all this up by combing clips into full length videos of various events. Should I convert them all into the same format before trying to do this and if so what would be the recommended format (mpeg4)?

Basically all these clips were filmed with various cameras producing all kinds of file types. All the clips are a minute or two long. I would like to be able to assemble the pieces into full length movies of each specific event and burn them to DVD.

Cheers and thanks for the help

Your Mac's Specs
iMac Core Duo 20", iBook G4, iPhone 8GB :)
Visualhub has the best array of conversion options. To stick movies together you can use iMovie for advanced stuff, or you can even use Quicktime (pro) to just drop movies and stitch them together...
